You may need to take medicines to:
-
Prevent and treat infection. Antibiotics attack and kill
the germs that cause bacterial infection.
-
Trigger new cell growth. These medicines help your body
make new white blood cells. Neupogen is an example of this kind of medicine.
Talk with your healthcare provider
about the best medicines for you. In some cases, they may tell you to not take
acetaminophen or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) for pain. This is because
these medicines can hide a fever if you have a low white blood cell count (neutropenia).
Talk with your healthcare provider about medicine for pain if you need it during your
nadir period.
